Published July 30 2013

Regency Historical Romance
ISBN:  0062273930
With seven troublesome half sisters to marry off, Duncan, the Earl of Eads, has one problem: he's broke.

With the prospect of marriage to the pompous local curate, Miss Teresa Finch-Freeworth has one dream: to wed instead the handsome Highlander she saw at a ball.

How does a desperate lady convince a reluctant laird that she's the perfect bride for him? She strikes a wager! If she can find seven husbands for seven sisters, the earl must marry her.

Duncan has no intention of wedding the meddlesome maiden, and he gives her a deadline even the most audacious matchmaker can't meet—one month. But Teresa sets terms, too: with each bridegroom she finds, the earl must pay her increasingly intimate rewards . .
My Review
I have only read a book or two from this author, previously to reading How To Marry A Highlander. I have enjoyed her stories in the past, so I was looking forward to this novella. It is a bit short, 100 pages, but surprsingly was pretty well done, and wasn't too rushed as I expected it to be. It definitely had a fun flair of dramatics and passionate mystery that engages the reader fully into the story. I found the idea of their "wager" intriguing and the connection between Duncan and Teresa instataneous and I couldn't help but find the situation humorous and full of laughs. It was interesting seeing his sisters reaction to Teresa, and definitely was on their side. When a smart and cunning woman is involving in getting what she wants, a lone man has zero chance!! Although I did enjoy seeing him trying anyway. A fun and witty story that will capture your attention!! If you are looking for a short yet sweet romantic tale, definitely worth the read!!!

Book Review-Darius

Darius
Lonely Lords (1)
Grace Burrowes
Sourcebooks Casablanca
Mass Market Paperback
Published April 2013
378 Pages
Regency Historical Romance
ISBN:
Desperate, penniless, and shunned by his wealthy father, Darius Lindsey begins offering himself secretly to jaded society ladies. He hangs onto his last shreds of honor, but he's losing ground financially each month.

That is until the aging Lord William Longstreet makes Darius an offer he can't refuse: get the Lord's pretty young wife-of-convenience, Lady Vivian, pregnant discreetly, and he will earn enough money to never want again. But problems lie ahead when the stunning Vivian captures his heart, and his clients refuse to let him go. Can Darius untangle himself without scandal and offer himself to Vivian heart and soul?
My Review
Grace Burrowes is one of my favorite authors to read. After reading some of the Wyndham series, she was bumped up to the top of my list.  In the past, her stories have been emotionally driven stories with powerful characters. Darius is the first in this series, and by reading the synopsis I was beyond intrigued.  Darius is definitely a bit different than Burrowes other stories. As I first started reading Darius, I wasn't sure how much I would end up liking it. How Darius and Vivian meet and get together isn't the exact situation I am normally comfortable with. However as I continued to read through it, I found I was captivated by this sweet story that ended up putting my emotions through the ringer.

Darius, finds himself being put in a bad situation. Penniless and desperate to protect his sister, decides to offer himself up in return for money. Each and every time he gives his body, he can barely live with himself, but he does what is necessary in order to survive. Then one day a titled lord approaches him with a offer with a huge amount of funds in exchange for get his wife pregnant, to secure her future. Vivian loves her husband, but not in a way of passion or romantic love. She was a friend of his first wife, and agreed to marry him when she had no one to turn to. Now he has persuaded her that since he is older and unable to give her a child, that she will need one after he has died. In the beginning Vivian refuses to do so, but knows it is her only option. When she goes to their country estate and meets Darius, she finds herself captivated by his touch. She has never felt passion until now, and now that she has found a man that she could come to deeply care for, she will have to let him go and act as if they are mere acquaintances. When she does find that she is pregnant with Darius's child, she doesn't know if she can let him go. Will Darius and Vivian be able to find their happy ending?

Overall I found Darius to be a astounding read and a great beginning to the Lonely Lords series. I found this story enriching and deeply provoking. I loved seeing Darius and Vivian and seeing how their relationship turns out. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. I loved Darius from the beginning despite his being a man ho of sorts. But I loved how protective he was of Vivian. There was such a tender connection between these two that I admired from the start. The intimacy that grows between them was endearing and I couldn't help but fall in love with these two. Even Vivian's husband I admired as well, such a sweet caring that you are bound to love as much as I did. A intoxicating read full of a complex plot, lively characters and a story that will break your heart!! A KEEPER TO PUT ON THE SHELF!!!

Book Review-A Notorious Countess Confesses

A Notorious Countess Confesses
Pennyroyal Green (7)
Julie Anne Long
Avon
Mass Market Paperback
Published October 2012
374 Pages
Regency Historical Romance
ISBN 978-0-06-211802-8
Authors Website
She rose to spectacular heights…

From Covent Garden to courtesan to countess, beautiful, fearless, shamelessly ambitious Evie Duggan has riveted London in every role she plays. But the ton never could forgive her scandalous—if shockingly short—marriage, and when her star plummets amid gleefully vicious gossip, the countess escapes to the only legacy left to her: a manor house in Pennyroyal Green.

He never expected to fall so hard…

He has the face of a fallen angel and a smolder the devil would envy, but Vicar Adam Sylvaine walks a precarious line: resisting temptation…and the wild Eversea blood in his veins. Adam’s strength is tested when scandal, aka the countess, moves to Sussex. But when a woman who fiercely guards her heart and a man entrusted with the souls of an entire town surrender to a forbidden desire, will the sweetest sin lead them to Heaven...or make outcasts of them forever?
My Review
I have been wanting to read this book ever since it came out last year. So when it became available at my local library, I knew I had to pick it up. There have been some books of this series I have loved and other that ended up being averagely enjoyable, A Notorious Countess Confesses is up there on the top of my list of favorites from this author.  This one is a bit different than most regency's, I loved the unique setting that the characters are placed in.

It begins when Evie Duggan, after becoming a widow and with rumors and scandals flying around London about her, decides to settle in Pennyroyal Greens, to have a new start. When she arrives, she causes quite a stir among the country folk, who view who as a woman ripe with scandalous behavior. She decides that she must make friends in order to become more accepted so that she can make a life for herself. But its harder than it looks. When the Vicar, starts to interact with her, she finds herself wanting more than just a content life, she craves his touch like none other. His goodness and sincerity overwhelms her, and before she realizes it, she wonders if they could ever have a future together. Adam, depends on his livelihood as the Vicar. He has sacrificed much for this life, but in some ways its well worth it. When the new countess shows up in town, rumors fly about her devious and scandalous ways, and must guard himself carefully. But there is something more to Evie than meets the eye. There is a instant connection between Adam and Evie, but in the end will Adam choose his people over Evie, or does his love for Evie be strong enough?

There was quite a bit that I found very like able about this story. The characters in this story were very endearing and I liked them from the first chapter. Adam is unlike most heroes of regency romance. He hasn't had a ton of experience with women, in fact the heroine in this story has more history with men than Adam seems to have with women. Adam is very sincere and good hearted, and I loved how caring he was at times. His circumstances and personality are of a more gentle nature, but I enjoyed seeing Adam interact with Evie, Evie has a very strong willed vitality about her. I liked her from the beginning, Evie may have a bit of a scandalous past, but only in order to protect her family. She also has suffered quite a bit and I loved seeing her with Adam, they end up complimenting each other in such a unique way. A charming and warm romantic tale that is bound to warm your heart!! BRILLIANT!!

ARC Book Review-How To Lose A Bride In One Night

How To Lose A Bride In One Night
Forgotten Princesses (3)
Sophie Jordan
Avon
E Book
Published July 30 2013
384 Pages
Regency Historical Romance
ISBN: 978-0-06-203301-7
He saved her life...

When Annalise Hadley is tossed over the side of her honeymoon barge, the newly-minted duchess knows she's been left for dead -- for her husband's only interest is in her vast dowry, not her muddied lineage. However, she didn't count on a savior. Especially not an honorable, sinfully intriguing earl who will tempt her to risk everything—again.

Now he will seduce her heart and soul

A man with his own demons, Owen Crawford, the reclusive Earl of McDowell, is enchanted by the mysterious, courageous woman he rescued. He will help her heal, teach her to protect herself, and then send her away—so that she’ll never see he’s far from the hero she believes him to be.

But days and nights alone prove that some secrets are meant to be discovered...some desires are too powerful to resist…and some wounds can only be healed by love.
My Review
I recently discovered Sophie Jordan over the past few months, and have really loved her books that I have read so far. This newer series of hers, has been so far, inspirational. There is such emotion that is played out throughout this one. I read the first one not too long ago, so I was thrilled to have a chance to read this one though Avon and Edelweiss. This story brings out a unique tale of a woman that has had the shock of her life, and has to learn to rely on a stranger for help. When her husband on their wedding trip, tries to kill her and dumps her in the river, she barely survives, and with a broken leg, spends weeks with Owen Crawford. Owen is a army man, and has done many things that he regrets. He finds that Anna is a beautiful and engaging woman, too much temptation for him. Owen at first tries to resist her charms, but before long he sucumbs to a passion that sweeps them both away. Anna has a big secret that she must keep from Owen, in order to survive. She must never let her husband know that she is alive, or her life could be in danger again, and she might not survive the next time. I found this story to be a engaging story that was well worth the read. With some suspense, and intense drama at times, a few gypsy's thrown into the mix,  and a villian that is bound to put chills down your spine. I found my attention captivated once more by Sophie Jordan. There hasn't been one book by this author that I haven't liked, and I have to say that "How to lose a bride in one night" went way beyond what I expected from Jordan. This couple may seem normal on the surface, but in the end they became very endearing especially in the end. A wonderful and sweet tale set in the Regency Era that is bound to curl your whole body. You are in for one hell of a find!!! Guaranteed for pure enjoyment.

Book Review-Dragon Bound

Dragon Bound
Elder Races (1)
Thea Harrison
E Book
Published May 2011
312 Pages
Shifter Romance
ISBN:  0425241505
Author's Website
Half-human and half-Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful—and passionate—of the Elder Races.

As the most feared and respected of the Wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they've ignited in each other.

Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave—although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul
My Review
I recently just bought Dragon Bound, for a group read, and since I just adore shifter romances, and this author has been at the top of my list of authors to read. I do have a weakness for dragons, and after reading Dragon Bound, I am hooked on this author. I have already bought the second one. Thea Harrison brings out certain aspects of shifter love stories, that completely captures your attention from the first paragraph. There was quite a few things that I enjoyed about Dragon Bound. As the first in the series, I felt like this author set up this world with enough description and sensuality to get you hooked immediately. I never felt lost in her writing or confused.

Pia finds herself being forced into a situation with no good ending in sight. She ends up having no option but to steal a penny from the leader of the Wyr (dragon shifters), and through some miracle she manages it without getting caught. But she knows that he will try to find her, and she will have to live a life on the run. With the help of a friend she manages to escape into a territory that is a enemy to the Wyr. But then she is shocked when her good luck runs out, and she finds herself captured by Dragos. In the beginning she expects him to kill her or torture her, but she is shocked when neither of those things actually occur. Dragos is furious with Pia when he finally finds the thief that stole his penny. But he finds himself being seduced by her beauty and her sweet spirit, and did what had to be done to survive. He starts to truly admire her, but there are vultures circling around them, threatening both of them. Only by truly trusting one another and working as a team will they be able to conquer all that stands between them.

I have heard so many great things about Dragon Bound since it came out, and I don't know how I waited this LONG to finally get my booty in gear and read it! Thea Harrison is going up my list along side with J.R. Ward and Christine Feehan. There was so much that I enjoyed about this story. There was so much mystery and intrigue and a intensity to the story that only tightened its hold on me. I loved this couple, Pia and Dragos were stellar together. There was quite a few surprises here and there, and the chemistry alone is hot enough to heat the whole planet up. Dragon Bound lived up to my expectations and even more than that it turned into one of those stories that burns in your memory forever. A Tale full of passion, paranormal suspense, with such witty interactions between the characters, you will have no choice but to fall in love. A WINNNER of a read and I guarantee it will delight you from your head to your toes. A must read for any that are looking for a thrilling and intense romance yet soft and juicy on the inside.

ARC Book Review-Love and Other Scandals

Love And Other Scandals
Scandals (1)
Caroline Linden
Avon
E Book
Published July 30 2013
384 Pages
Regency Historical Romance
ISBN: 978-0-06-224487-1
Author Website
Joan Bennet is tired of being a wallflower. Thanks to some deliciously scandalous—and infamous—stories, she has a pretty good idea of what she's missing as a spinster. Is even a short flirtation too much to ask for?

Tristan, Lord Burke, recognizes Joan at once for what she is: trouble. Not only is she his best friend's sister, she always seems to catch him at a disadvantage. The only way he can win an argument is by kissing her senseless. He'd give anything to get her out of her unflattering gowns. But either one of those could cost him his bachelor status, which would be dreadful—wouldn't it?
My Review

I recently discovers Caroline Linden has a well talented author. I have only read one of her books so far, but loved every moment of it. I was very excited when I saw that Love and Other Scandals was available for  review through Avon and Edelweiss. The cover alone made me dizzy with excitement. One of the small aspects of the book that I enjoyed, was that in the book the heroine really does where a beautiful gold gown, just like on the cover. It doesn't happen too often, where the cover is what the book is described as. As far as I know this one isn't part of a series, but maybe it will be in the future. I could definitely see potential to see more books connected to this one. I found that Love and other Scandals was a stirring romance tale that enraptures the reader.

We see a story that begins with seeing when Joan and Tristan first meet when they are children. Tristan is Joan's brothers best friend, and she finds him a rascal yet charming. Years later, they have both matured and grown up. Tristan had to take over his title when his parents are killed when he is young. Now his reputation is well known all over London as a rake and a scoundrel, and Joan's mother has forbidden her to even dance with him. But one evening, Joan can't resist the temptation, and dances with Tristan, and before she knows it, he is taking her on adventures and sharing sensual embraces with her, and she finds herself falling in love with the man. Tristan may have the reputation of a rake, but he is anything but. He loves pleasure however there is much more to him than meets the eye. He knows that he is perfect for Joan, she completes him in a way that amazes him, he just knows he must have her, but he will have to convince her first of his sincerity and his love.

I found Love and Scandals to be a breathtaking tale of sweeping tale of adventure, true love, and makes Regency England come alive with Lindens writing. I found myself falling in love with these characters, there is such a instant passion between the two, but not only that but a bond of friendship forms, and the way the author writes, it is so vividly enchanting, that only captures the readers attention from the beginning. I have to say that I am behind on reading this author. Love and Other Scandals is one of my favorites, and I could help but be swept away by this charming story that won me over from page one. I fully recommend this to anyone that enjoys a fun and witty regency love story.

Short Book Review-My Lord Vampire

My Lord Vampire
Immortal Rogues (1)
Alexandra Ivy
Zebra
Mass Market Paperback
Published February 2012
313 Pages
Vampire Historical Romance
ISBN 1420122711
Authors Website
Synopsis
While the ton dances and gossips, another kind of society altogether claims the London night as its own. By the light of the moon, three noble vampires entrusted with the protection of their kind will discover that human desire is far from lost to them--and that love may be the only thing they long for more than life everlasting...

MIDNIGHT KISS
When an old gypsy woman gives Sally Jenkins a mysterious amulet--promising much happiness if she safeguards it, and doom if she gives it to another--Sally is intrigued. Born on the wrong side of the coverlet, and currently her half-sister's drudge, Sally has never had anything of value to call her own.

Then a tragic carriage accident in route to London suddenly presents Sally with the chance to live her near twin's life. Masquerading as Simone Gilbert, Sally is soon the toast of the ton, hosting dazzling parties and cozy salons--and the object of two men's dogged courtship.

Sally senses a dangerous hunger beneath Tristan Soltern's smooth-mannered interest that repulses her, but she is drawn to elegant, black-eyed Gideon Ravel--and tempted to prove to him that she is exactly what she seems.

It's a risky game--especially when she discovers that Gideon himself is something other than the refined gentleman she believes him to be, something far more dangerous and unbearably seductive...
My Review
This is a new author for me, and her books have been on my wishlist for quite some time now. So when I saw that My Lord Vampire was in my local library, I decided to try this one out, especially since it is the first installment in the series. One of my favorite things that I enjoyed about this one, is that not only is a paranormal themed romance, but it is set in a historical setting. Now anyone who even knows my favorite types of books are Historical's. So My Lord Vampire was a delightful surprise for me. I found myself being captivated by this story. I will say that it started out a bit slow, and at first I didn't know if I would like the heroine or not. She seemed to be a bit of a snob at first, but as the story slowly progresses we see that she is anything but. I enjoyed seeing this couple first interaction....and second, third and fourth. LOL There was instant sparks, and I swear, despite the hot hot summer we are having, I almost felt like I was on fire. Such sizzling compatibility that Tristan and Simone had. There is quite a bit of a intense and mysterious aspect to the story that only added to the romance even more. I will say that I can't wait to read more from this author, I don't know why it has taken me so long to read her before now, however her books are going to be bumped up my list. A thrilling tale of passion, adventure and intensity bound to curl your toes.
