Book Review-Bengal's Heart

Bengal's Heart
Breeds (19)
Lora Leigh
Berkley Sensation
Paperback August 2009
338 Pages
Shifter Series
ISBN: 978-0-425-22902-6
Synopsis
New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh returns to the world of the Breeds where animal instincts rule and anyone can fall prey to the mating heat...

Reporter Cassa Hawkins has always supported Breed rights believing they should be allowed to live free of fear and prejudice among the humans. A reasonable woman couldn't think otherwise, especially not in the presence of Cabal St Laurents, a spectacularly muscled Bengal. The epitome of the male animal, his sensual growl can fire up Cassa's vulnerable body faster than a flame. Yet neither can ignore the night mare unfolding around them...

The Breeds have been incriminated in a series of violent murders must discover the truth. But as hunter becomes prey, are trust and passion enough to keep them alive through the night?

MY REVIEW
Summary:
Cassa Hawkins has always been supportive of breeds and their rights, and being a journalist has always tried to put them in the positive light as much as possible.  However the breed's have never made it easy for her, and for years she has resisted Cabal, who if he decided to claim her she would be his mate. Having to suffer with the hormone treatments to regulate the symptoms of the heat, the past several years haven't been easy on her especially when seeing him with countless women. So when Cabal decides to claim her as his mate now, Cassa resists because she doesn't want to be part of a 'harem' of women, only now not only is their danger to her heart there is also danger circling around her when their lives are threatened, and they must work together if they want to get to the bottom of what is really going on...

The Hero (Cabal St. Laurents)
Cabal, a bengal,  suffered like many other fellow breeds, but now like many others trying to build a life for himself, and now with Cassa digging for the truth that could get her easily killed, knows that he must protect her at all costs especially knowing that she is his mate and can't let her go despite her protests. As the danger to them both escalates so does his feelings for her, where he starts to desire much more than sex, he desires love and contentment, and knows that he can only find it in her arms.

The Heroine (Cassa Hawkins)
Cassa, a journalist only shares what she knows to be the truth and has always tried to put the breeds in a better light than most of her colleagues would. Ever since that one fateful night that changed her life forever, she has tried to move on and resist the signs of the mating heat, but now with Cabal so near and protective, she knows that her feelings for him will only grow, but desires one thing from Cabal that none other can give her...his love but wonders if he can ever come to love her.

  My Thoughts
Bengal's Heart is the 19th in the Breeds series. There are some books in this series that I have like more or less than others, but I truly enjoyed reading Bengal's Heart. There was a lot of steamy scenes that could singe your eyebrows if you're not careful, however there was also focus on the romantic relationship between Cabal and Cassa which I enjoyed even more. The interaction between these two could be intense but also make a reader laugh. I loved the humor in this story that the author portrayed, and I loved the plot, never a dull moment would sum it up pretty nicely. One of my other favorite aspects to the book was that there was a mystery to be solved, and I have always had a weakness for a good mystery, so there were multiple reasons that I enjoyed Bengals Heart. Overall an enjoyable read, with exciting scenes and deep connection between the characters and a few steamy scenes makes for a Amazing Romance that only Lora Leigh can produce.

The Bed And The Bachelor

Tracy Anne Warren
Avon
Paperback
Published August 2011
348 Pages
Regency Historical Romance

Synopsis
In The Bed And The Bachelor, dashing aristocrat, Lord Drake Byron, has no time in his busy life to worry about taking a wife. He is more interested in the unbreakable code he has developed to defeat Napoleon's forces. Little does he know that the irresistibly lovely new housekeeper he's hired is really a French spy.

Sebastianne Dumont is not at all who she seems to be. Forced to steal the code to save her family, her mission takes an even more dangerous turn when she falls in love with the surprisingly tempting man she must ultimately betray. And if she succeeds in stealing the code, will she also steal Lord Drake's heart, while leaving her own behind?

MY REVIEW

Summary:
Sebastianne has been forced to come to England and takes the position of Lord Drake Byron's housekeeper, so she can be a spy for France in order to save her family who are in danger if she doesn't get a certain piece of information. Only what she didn't expect was to be working for a man that is more tempting than she expected. Lord Drake knew that when Anne came into his office desiring the housekeeper position that she would present only problems if he hired her, but despite his inner turmoil, he decides to hire her in a moment of weakness. In the beginning he blames it on physical needs, but as things between them escalate on a sensual level, he knows that he can't keep resisting her, but wants to embrace his feelings for her...

The Hero (Drake Byron)
Drake is in the middle of a large family, and is determined not to get married off like his siblings have done and despite his mothers insistence on the need to settle down. His plan for his life is vastly different than his familys'. Drake is more than willing to work on the mathematical theories involving the stars and not on having a wife to worry about, but when Anne comes into his household his mind starts to drift from the scientific matters to the matters of the heart...

The Heroine (Sebastianne Dumont)
Sebastianne, her main focus is to keep her family safe at all costs even if that means becoming a spy. So she travels to England, planning on stealing vital information to help the french government in return for her family's safety. Sebastianne knew that she would have to end up betraying Drake from the first moment she met him, but as time goes on and pressure amounts...she gets more and more reluctant to betray the one man that she is coming to love....but knows that she will have to choose between duty to her family and duty to her heart.

My Thoughts
Bed and the Bachelor is the fifth in the Byrons of Braebourne series, and I have just come to love each and every one of the books in the series but this one is one my favorites so far. I have always enjoyed reading historical spy romances, and so I could hardly wait to start reading this one the moment I got my hands on it. There was a  level of mystery to the story and a depth to the characters that one always see's from this author, but there was also a enticement as well that draws the reader in, and I found myself reading this book within a few hours, which only happens whenever I am reading a book that I can't put down. I loved the aspect of danger to the plot, definitely had me on the edge of my seat. Overall it was a well written novel that flowed nicely with in depth characters that the reader could relate with easily. So if you love historical romances especially those that involve spys than this one is definitely for you!!

Book Review-Pride Mates

CALL OF THE WILD

To most, they are animals -- even when in human form. They are to be collared and kept on the fringes of society, scorned because they are feared, hated for their extraordinary powers. And attorney Kim Fraser has to go right into the heart of their lair.

It's her job to defend those in need. But there's absolutely nothing defenseless about Liam Morrissey. His soft Irish lilt and feline grace can't disguise his sheer strength. Nor can the silver chain at his throat, designed to control the aggression of his kind, completely reassure her that this man has been tamed.

Yet when a feral shifter begins to stalk them both, Liam is the only one she trusts with her life. She'll let him claim her -- for her protection, for her pride, and for a passion that knows no bounds.

MY REVIEW
Summary:
Liam Morrissey, like many of his kind knows that no good can come from trusting humans, all he can trust is his people. But then one of their own gets into trouble with the law and an Attorney Kim Fraser, comes to speak with him, to help him and his kind. Kim Fraser knows not much of the shifter laws but is determined to make sure her client is proved innocent and comes to Liam for his help. Kim definitely is out of her game when she calls on Liam, and before she realizes it she is in way over her head and the attraction between herself and Liam is about to get that much dangerous. When both of their lives are put at risk, will they have to learn to trust one another and the strong connection that is beginning to develop if they want to come out on top...

The Hero (Liam Morrissey)
Liam, finds Kim to be very unusual for a human, and knows that she could be very dangerous, not to his kind and fellow shifters....but to him. There is a strong sensual attraction that develops and soon he finds that he doesn't want to let her go and he knows that he must protect her when she is willing to risk her own life to help the shifters, knowing the she could be shunned by her own kind for doing so. Liam knows that the Alpha side of him to give in to the need to protect her at all costs...

The Heroine (Kim Fraser)
Kim Fraser, knows that the moment she steps into the shifter territory that she could be risking her life, but the moment she does she finds that she only wants to learn more of them and when she meets Liam she knows her life will never be the same again. There is a wildness about him that only feeds her passion for him and when danger threatens them Kim is willing to do whatever it takes....

My Thoughts
Pride Mates is the first in the Shifters Unbound series and since I have just loved reading Jennifer Ashley's historical's, I thought I would try this one out especially since I have heard many good things about it and found that I have just fallen in love with the story line and the characters, and this enchanting novel definitely whetted my appetite. I think I just fell in love with everything about this book apart from one aspect however overall it was everything one would need in a paranormal romance, and it did that and more for me, I couldn't read the pages fast enough I loved it so much and there was such a sensual and exciting aspect to the story as well as a dangerous one full of intrigue and fast paced action. I am looking forward to reading more in this series!!! Definitely a Winner!
