Book Review- Single White Vampire

Single White Vampire
 Argeneau Series (3)
Lynsay Sands
Leisure,
369 Pages,
Published Dec 2008

Synopsis:
The Family Argenau
SWM--"Lucern." Successful biographer of family, books recently categorized as "paranormal romances." Something of a recluse. Hates crowds, aggressive women. Doesn't like sunbathing, garlicky dinners or religious symbols. Likes old-fashioned values; spicy Mexican dishes; warm, nice-smelling necks; and plump red lips. Stronger than ten men and can vanish in the blink of an eye. Currently unaware he's seeking a woman to share eternity.

SWF--"Kate C. Leever." Newest editor of Romance at Roundhouse Publishing. Perky, fun. Has recently discovered a legacy author just dying to be broken out. In fact, her career could take off from it. (The tall, dark, handsome writer just needs to be taken to several romance conventions and introduced to his fans . . . and stopped from acting so strange in public.) Dislikes "difficult, rude, obnoxious, pig-headed writers." Currently unaware she's met the man of her wildest dreams.

My Review:
Mr. Lucern Argeneau is a surly stubborn vampire. He is a famous author of romance novels (who would ever guess that from Luc) but he ignores his mail, phone call and emails. His own family have to come to his house to even keep in contact with him. He is a anti social creature, whose favorite word is "No". He has no intention of being publicized, although his editor insists. She arrives at his home and camps there until she can convince him to do a interview, or a book tour.
Kate Leever is a talented, and beautiful young woman. She knows that she has to convince this surly author to do something for publicity; especially since her job is on the line. So she heads to his home, and stubbornly refuses to leave. She badgers and attempts to convince him that it would be in his best interest. Of Course his most popular word with her is "No". She has never met a man with so few vocabulary as Luc.  Luc's mother, Marguerite is a interfering mother when it comes to her children, especially trying to get them married off. She convinces Luc to bring Kate as his date to Etienne's Wedding. Events occur whereby Lucern is tricked into attending the RT Convention with hundreds of fans. When he finds out what he has agreed to, he is furious with mother especially. But she reminds him that he gave his word that he would attend, so he does albeit reluctantly.

Now I absolutely loved this book, I was laughing the whole way through. If you can just imagine a handsome, alpha male and very surly attending the Romantic Times Convention; someone who hates to converse too much and his favorite word is ""no" well its a disaster waiting to happen. Which is exactly what I was thinking, but as it turned out; Lucern managed it pretty well once he learned how to converse with people and realize how important it is to keep up with his fans. The journey from him saying a few words to have whole conversations however is a riot!! I wouldn't have wanted to miss reading out on this one; so if you need a good laugh; just pick up this book and you will never regret it. Of course there were other things I enjoyed about it as well. I loved Kate; she is such a enticing character that really just makes you fall in love with her instantly. She is such a warm and lovable character. At first I was thinking there are no two more people more opposite from one another, I have no idea how they will work things out but as it turned out they ended up being complimenting one another and really just perfect for one another. Because opposites do attract, and in my opinion is one of the best ingredients for a romantic relationship; especially regarding this one. It was filled with passion, witty humor, and characters that will draw you into the story, and make you want to read more.

So here is mine:

My Teaser is from Wild Rain by Christine Feehan

"You are a stranger to me, aren't you?" She could feel the heat of his gaze right down to her toes Why didn't he feel like a stranger? When he touched her, why was it so familiar to her?
His eyebrow shot up. " You are in my bed, I've been taking care of you night and day for a couple of days. You'd better hope I'm not a stranger."

Found on pg 68

What is your teaser?

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with either the link to your own Teaser Tuesdays post, or share your 2 ‘teasers’ in a comment here (if you don’t have a blog). Thanks!

Book Review-The Unsung Hero

The Unsung Hero
Suzanne Brockmann
Ballentine Books,
392 Pages,
Published June 2000
Romantic Suspense
Synopsis:
After a near-fatal head injury, U.S. Navy SEAL Lieutenant Tom Paoletti catches a terrifying glimpse of an international terrorist in his New England hometown. When he calls for help, the Navy dismisses the danger as injury-induced imaginings. In a desperate last-ditch effort to prevent disaster, Tom creates his own makeshift counterterrorist team, assembling his most loyal officers, two elderly veterans of the Second World War, a couple of misfit teenagers, and Dr. Kelly Ashton -- the sweet "girl next door" who has grown into a remarkable woman. Once known as the town’s infamous bad boy, Tom has always longed for Kelly. Now he has one final chance for happiness, one last chance to win her heart, and one desperate chance to save the day....

My Review:

The Unsung Hero takes place in Baldwin Bridge, Mass. with the main characters as LT Tom Paoletti and Dr. Kelly Ashton. I was very eager to start reading this book, I have read most of the series, but I finally got my hands on The Unsung Hero at the local library. Every one who has read this series, probably doesn't love Tom as much as I do. Who is the leader of SEAL Team 16 and really cares for the men under his command. In this book, it starts out with Tom having a serious head injury, he was in a coma for many weeks, and is forced to take a months leave to heal; because the doctors feel he is suffering from Paranoia. When he does return after the month, if he doesn't pass the medical exams, he would lose his command and forced to retire from the Navy. Tom knowing that is the worst that can happen, returns to the home where he grew up, and where he fell in love with Dr. Kelly Ashton. He knows its more than likely she isn't there, but there is still a hope that she may be.
Dr. Kelly Ashton is a pediatrician, a very skilled doctor. Kelly has been in love with Tom since she was 15 years old. She heads to her father's home, when she hears that he has cancer in every organ of his body and isn't expected to live longer than a few months. Her Father, Charles, wasn't ever a model father. For the most part he ignored her, never showed her his love for her. Charles asked for his best friend Joe (Toms Uncle). So Kelly heads over to Joe's house and finds Tom Paoletti instead. She is shocked to say the least, she never expected to find him here; when she knew that he is the leader of a SEAL team and thought he would most likely be on some mission overseas. With Kelly taking care of her father, and Tom living with his uncle for a month; they are drawn together again like moths to a flame. As their attraction and relationship develops, Tom see's a terrorist known as the "Merchant" within the town; he wonders if its really him or if its the paranoia that is getting to him. But when he see's the terrorist a second time at a store buying electrical wire, he suspects that he is building a bomb. He notifies a friend Admiral Crowley, who tells him he could lose his career over this if he is wrong. Telling Tom that he needs to relax and rest. But Tom knowing the risks, calls a few members of his team to come in and assist him.

I very much enjoyed this read, very stimulating and exciting. It definitely got the blood pumping with the sensual passion between Kelly and Tom; and the exciting mystery and thrilling sense of danger that sneaks up upon them. Its also filled with two other sub plots that draw the reader into the story. I found myself never wanting to put this one down, its one of my favorite books of Brockmann's, and of the Troubleshooters Series. I definitely wasn't disappointed in Tom and Kelly's story, and am happy that I have finally read it. It surpassed all my expectations, and its definitely one read you don't want to miss out on.

Lusting for Covers is a weekly meme, held on Sunday, that allows bloggers to share their current cover obsession with fellow book lovers.Hosted by TBQ
Here's what you do:

1- Take the graphic (left) to use on your post. Remember to give credit to the original host (TBQ).

2- Choose your own book cover that you've fallen in "lust" with in the past week. It can be new, old, a reprint, or even a book that is not yet out-- it's all up to you! If you find a cover that catches your eye, then showcase it on your blog, and let others see the pretty covers out there.

3- Copy the direct link to your own L4C post into the comment section on my post (when in doubt, use this link and then scroll down to find the post), and allow others to come and see what you picked! (OPTIONAL):

4- Besides posting the picture of the book cover you chose, it's nice to provide the book summary, title, author, or a website link for the book. It's not required, but it can help you readers' to add more books to their own list! A brief "Why I choose this cover" is also appreciated, but not required.

Still mourning her mother's death, Kimberly Richards is incensed by the determination of her father, the Earl of Amburough, to marry her off as quickly as possible --- just to please the jealous lover he plans to wed. And since Kimberly harbors a deep-seated dislike of gold-diggers and the whole distasteful state of affairs, the feisty young heiress already despises the "worthy suitor" she encounters at Sherring Cross Estate: Lachlan MacGregor, the dashing,, newly impoverished Laird of Clan MacGregor.

A tryst with the handsome, haughty Lachlan seems dubious at best --- especially since the rogue has designs on the married Duchess of Wrothston. But strange turns and outrageous circumstances promise to lead a woefully mismatched pair to a wildly unexpected destination --- where a hard, resisting heart can open to the true glories of love.

Book Review-Into The Fire

Into The Fire
(Troubleshooters Series)
Suzanne Brockmann
Ballentine Books,
Audio- 496 Pages,
Published July 2008
Suspense Contemporary

Synopsis:
Suspense doesn't burn any brighter and desire doesn't run any deeper than when Suzanne Brockmann takes the helm, opens the throttle, and takes readers along for a breathless ride as she breaks the thrill barrier -- again and again. With Into the Fire, Brockmann lights the fuse on her most explosive story yet.
Vinh Murphy -- ex-Marine and onetime operative for the elite security firm Troubleshooters Incorporated -- has been MIA ever since his wife, Angelina, was caught in a crossfire and killed during what should have been a routine bodyguard assignment. Overcome with grief, Murphy blames the neo-Nazi group known as the Freedom Network for her death. Now, years later, Freedom Network leader Tim Ebersole has been murdered -- and the FBI suspects Murphy may have pulled the trigger. To prevent further bloodshed, Murphy's friends at Troubleshooters scramble to find him and convince him to surrender peacefully.
Murphy himself can't be sure what he did or didn't do during the years he spent mourning and lost in an alcohol-induced fog. He does know he occasionally sought solace from Hannah Whitfield, a former police officer and the very friend who'd introduced him to his beloved late wife.
But Hannah, still grappling with the deafness that resulted from an injury sustained while on duty, was fighting her own battles. For years Hannah had feelings for Murphy, and one painful night their suffering brought them together in a way neither expected -- and both regretted.
But finally, Murphy is ready to rejoin the living. As always, he finds himself knocking on Hannah's door, and as always, his longtime friend welcomes him back into her home. Yet even as Murphy slowly rebuilds his splintered life, he continues to fight his growing feelings for Hannah. Then he learned of Ebersole's murder and comes to believe that the Freedom Network has targeted him -- and Hannah -- to avenge their leader's death.
Now Murphy must face the terrifying prospect of losing to violence another woman he loves.
As the Troubleshooters desperately search for him, Murphy races toward a deadly confrontation with the Freedom Network and the ultimate choice: surrender his life in the hopes that Hannah will be spared, or risk everything to salvage whatever future they may have together.

My Review:
As with many of the Troubleshooters series, there are multiple sub plots within this book. I listened to this book, which I have all of the Troubleshooters, and will review them all once I listen to them again and their stories are more fresh within my mind. I just finished listening to Into The Fire and very much loved it. It did take me a while to listen to it, since I have been pre occupied of late, but I finally finished it. Yooray For Me!!! It starts out with the main story plot which is with Vinh Murphey and Hannah; who have been friends for ages. Vinh lost his wife some years ago, and still has problems grieving over her death. He loved her dearly and his only friend he ever comes to is Hannah. He comes to her cottage one night drunk as Hannah usually see's him since his late wife's death. Hannah understands because she was her best friend. I remember when I had listened to Hot Target where she dies. I was upset when Brockmann decided to kill her off, but now I am glad that she decided to do Vinh and Hanna's story. It was much needed. Since there is a plot to frame Vinh for the man's death who he believed was responsible for Angelina's(his late wife) death.  Hannah knowing she is the only friend he trusts, assists him in his mission to find out what really is going on and the risks involved are high. All the while his other friends(Seals ad Troubleshooters) are out hunting for him so they can find out what is going on and uncover the truth.
Another one of the sub plots is with Izzy Zanella and Danny Gillmann's younger sister who has just turned 18 years old are brought together. She takes refuge with Izzy for the night after her boyfriend leaves and abandons her at a Krispy Kreme. Where they spend one night together, and even though they don't get to third base, Izzy knows he is lost. Much later Danny forces him to marry his sister when she is found pregnant and they assume its Izzy's and even though Izzy knows he isn't the father he is willing to marry her.
Another minor sub plot that we see in this book involved Tess Bailey and Jimmy Nash. Although they are officially engaged, they have yet to set a date. It seems as though Jimmy is trying to force Tess into leaving him; and I have to say I can understand why (and you will too if you read this book) however you can see how much they love each other especially from a earlier book in the series Flashpoint. But you can see how Tess see's through Jimmy  and his attempts to protect her although misguided.

I absolutely loved this book, especially since I am a Troubleshooters fan, and I have been hoping that Murphy would find love again after his loss. The main focus of the book is Vinh and Hannah's story. Although I definitely enjoyed the other sub plots; which were filled drama, wit and suspense and very arousing. I loved the mystery and intrigue, the unabashed passion that develops between the couples, and the undermining love that strengthens and fortifies these tender relationships that Brockmann reveals to us. The plot was filled with excitement and thrilling suspense, the characters were highly developed and well portrayed, and it involved most of the Troubleshooters Team and the Seals Team 16 as well; which is always great to see. I was utterly captivated by this book, and would love to be able to listen to it again. I hope to have the opportunity soon!!! This is definitely at the top of my list of good book to listen to and read!!!

Book Review-When Love Awaits

When Love Awaits
Johanna Lindsey
Avon Romance,
343 Pages,
June 1986
Medieval Historical Romance

Synopsis:
Lady Leonie, the exquisite mistress of Pershwick, recoiled in horror. Cruelly pledged to the dreaded Rolfe of Crewel, she knew that her life was indeed over. But when she met the dark, magnificent, man who came to claim her...when she felt his burning caresses igniting her soul... all fears faded like a dream.
Yet the terrible demands of past hatreds amt misunderstandings would tear Leonie and Rolle apart again and again. Until in the blazing glory of passion's realm, they learned the truth that only love can bring.

My Review:
Lady Leonie grew up without a mother, her father remarried, and her step mother ends up controlling everything in the household when she drugs her father enough to appear drunk. No one is aware of this. Leonie, one day curses the "Black Wolf" whom she is afraid of. The peasants hear her, and since they are very loyal to her start wreaking havoc on Rolfe; minor incidents but enough so that he wants to take action. He decides to marry Lady Leonie to stop these incidents. Lady Leonie refuses to marry him at first, but her step mother takes action, and has one of her loyal servants beat her until she is black and blue; so that she will consent to marry him. She wears a veil to cover herself up, so no one will notice what has happened.

During their wedding day, they barely say two words to each other. On their wedding night, Rolfe touches her, and she reacts in pain and accidently cuts him with a knife. Lets just say things don't start out as they imagined it. Weeks later, he finds out beautiful his wife really is, and and wants to reside with him permanently when before he would have preferred her distanced away from him. From the moment that they first kissed, he sensed that there was something different about Leonie, and knows that there is a growing passion developing between them.

Leonie, is a amazing woman and was very aptly descripted in When Love Awaits. Leonie is strong, responsible, beautiful and smart. She handles the situations that she is dealt with. As her sensual relationship develops with Rolfe, so does her emotional one and she finds herself falling in love with him. There is one problem that she can never get over, and doesn't know if she will be able to get Rolfe to understand along with her. Rolfe has fought many battle, he has over seven keeps, close friends with the current King of England, his ward is his mistress who runs his household, and decides to marry Lady Leonie out of revenge. However after living with her and their powerful passionate embraces, he senses something growing between them that far outweighs desire.

This was a average read though, I  didn't enjoy it as much as I thought that I would. The characters didn't seem to connect, and it seemed to not flow smoothly. I found myself frustrated throughout the whole book; I mean I enjoyed reading it, but there also many moments where I just wanted to pull my hair out!!! The story although had a good start, didn't seem continue in that same pattern, it seemed to flow unnaturally and not to my liking.

Book Review-Shielder

Shielder
Shielder Series (1)
Catherine Spangler
Love Spell,
357 Pages,
Published April 1999
Futuristic Romance

Synopsis:

Unjustly shunned by her people, Nessa dan Ranul knows she is unlovable-but when an opportunity arises for her to save her world, she leaps at the chance, disregarding her own life. Setting out for the farthest reaches of the galaxy, she has one goal: to elude capture and deliver her race from destruction. But then she finds herself at the questionable mercy of Chase McKnight, a handsome bounty hunter. Suddenly, Nessa finds that escape is the last thing she wants. In Chase's passionate embrace she finds a nirvana of which she never dared dream-with a man she never dared trust. But as her identity remains a secret and her mission incomplete, each passing day brings her nearer to oblivion. Nessa knows the truth can save her, but can she risk trusting her heart?

My Review:
It starts out with Nessa, who has always felt less worthy in the eyes of her parents and the rest of the colony. Apart from her brother Jarek, whom she loves dearly she feels like a prisoner. She aches to get out there, and experience new things and make a difference. She volunteers for a mission where she would be injected with the Orana Virus. Where she could serve a purpose for her people and colony, even if it means her death. She wants to be remembered and do something her colony and her parents would be proud of. Jarek protests of course, since he is the only one that truly cares about her; but she goes ahead with it. This is a vital mission, since this virus has infected many, and they must test it so they can find a vaccine. She is put on a ship headed for Sonoma. On the way however, her ship very old gives out, and she is adrift in space.
Chase McKnight, is a controller who has rights in this part of space, and takes her on to his. Also along with her beloved pet, Turi. Who has been a friend to her when she had very few. Chase beams her on board of his ship, very reluctantly and is willing to take her to Sonoma but tells her it will take a week, and she has a month to get there, or she will die with no purpose. Chase is a bounty hunter of Shielders(which is what Nessa is and she knows that she has to withhold it from him. Therefore their journey begins, and as their relationship deepens and their feelings develop; but Chase is denying it to himself. They both know that there is no way for them to fall in love. But one thing happens after another, and they find it helpless to resist against each other and their tender feelings for one another.

This is the first book that I have read from Catherine Spangler, and I absolutely loved this story. It is filled with passion, adventure, mystery, wit and suspense. The humor in this book, is the best, I was laughing all through the book. I found Nessa to be driven young woman, to do anything to reach Sonoma, and her attempts to run away from Chase thoroughly amused me. I was always asking myself Now what is she going to end up doing next? She never ceases to amaze me, I have to say I was never bored while reading this one. Although there were moments that I got confused, for the most part it was a astounding read, that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Book Review- Montana Creeds: Tyler

Montana Creeds: Tyler
Montana Creeds
Linda Lael Miller
Harlequin Books,
372 Pages,
Published April 2009
Western Contemporary

Synopsis:
Descendants of the legendary McKettrick family, the Creeds are renowned in Stillwater Springs, Montana -- for raising hell...
Whether winning championship belt buckles or dealing with Hollywood types for endorsement deals, former rodeo star Tyler Creed can handle anything. Except standing on the same patch of land as his estranged brothers. Yet here they are in Stillwater Springs, barely talking but trying to restore the old Creed ranch--and family.
Lily Kenyon knows all about family estrangements and secrets. The single mom has come home to set things right, to put down roots for her daughter. What she doesn't expect is Tyler Creed, whom she's loved since childhood. Now the handsome, stubborn cowboy who left home to seek his fortune just might find it was always under the Montana sky....

My Review:
This is the third and last in the Montana Creeds Series. and probably my least favorite, but still a enjoyable read. Tyler is the youngest of the three brothers, and the most wild as well. The story starts out with Tyler trading his Cadillac for a truck; with a older couple. The man that owns that truck is baffled, but accepts the trade; who wouldn't?. Tyler is driving down the road heading back to Stillwater Springs and his pickup breaks down. He decides to call and find a tow truck, if he can.
Lily Kenyon comes home from Chicago to take care of her father after he has a heart attack. Lily is a widow, with a young daughter Tess. As they are driving home from the hospital, they see a young man on the road, Tyler Creed. Lily has always been in love with Tyler, but when they were younger he had a affair with a much older woman, a waitress. Tyler broke Lily's heart, and at the sight of seeing him again, she has to wonder if he will break it again. As their feelings develop, and their relationship grow, and unseeing danger will sneak up upon them.

I enjoyed this book, although it is my least favorite of the series. I felt that the relationship between Lily and Tyler wasn't as connected as I thought it should be. It also seemed to me that Lily just seemed to forget the past whenever she was anywhere near Tyler. I find that hard to believe, from how much he hurt her. This book just didn't seem to cover their past issues which are a very vital part of their relationship. Pretty much they just have a lot of steaming wild passionate sex (although I have to say some of my favorite scenes) and then they decide to get married. I thought it seemed a little too rushed for me. More so that the other books in the series. It did have some great mysterious intrigue, that fascinates and makes the reader want to hold their breath on what is going to happen next. So for the most part I enjoyed reading this one, although there were some flaws that really affected my opinion of the book.

Book Review- Montanta Creeds: Dylan

Montana Creeds: Dylan
(Montana Creeds Series)
Linda Lael Miller
Harlequin Books,
372 Pages,
Published: March 2009
Western Contemporary

Synopsis:
Descendants of the legendary McKettrick family, the Creeds are renowned in Stillwater Springs, Montana--for raising hell...

Hailed as "rodeo's bad boy" for his talent at taming bulls and women, Dylan Creed likes life in the fast lane. But when the daughter he rarely sees is abandoned by her mother, Dylan heads home to Stillwater Springs ranch. Somehow the champion bull rider has to turn into a champion father--and fast.

Town librarian Kristy Madison is uncharacteristically speechless when Dylan Creed turns up for story time with a toddler in tow. The man who'd left a trail of broken hearts--including her own--is back...and this time Kristy's determined to tame his wild ways once and for all.

My Review
This is the second in the creed men trilogy, and I truly loved Dylan about as much as I loved Logan. It start out in Las Vegas, Nevada. Where Dylan comes out to his truck, and finds his two year old daughter "Bonnie", furious that she was left alone; he then finds a note from Sharlene saying that she can't keep Bonnie anymore and that she is heading out with her current boyfriend. He decides that he is going to learn to take good care of his daughter (since Sharlene hardly let him see "Bonnie" so he really has no idea what he is doing) and heads to Stillwater Springs Ranch.
Kristy Madison is the town librarian, feeling all alone in the world with her parents having been dead for some time, and the only man she has ever truly loved broke her heart when she was younger. She sometimes feels like she is going to be a spinster; but has a good life for herself. Then one day Dylan Creed strolls into her library for story time with a toddler in his arms. Kristy is utterly speechless. Its been years since she has seen Dylan Creed, and never thought that she would see him anytime soon.
Dylan with his responsiblities to his daughter, is yet still drawn to the beautiful, sexy, librarian. Kristy, knows she needs more than what she currently has. She yearns for love and a home and children of her own. "Bonnie totally captivates Kristy' attention, and soon Kristy's is enchanted by her acceptance and innocence that a young child possess. There is also strange mysterious things happening around Stillwater Springs, a mystery that both Kristy and Dylan are willing to solve. With questions being aroused about Kristy and Dylan's father, feelings begin to develop again between Kristy and Dylan.

I was totally enthralled by this particular story of Millers. Ever since I have read Logan's story, I have looked forward to reading Dylan's, and it didn't disappoint. Of course whenever I read one of Linda Lael's Millers books; I rarely get disappointed. Dylan's Story is loaded with intrigue, passionate embraces, and a tender strengthening love that develops between Dylan and Kristy. I could barely put it down, and endearingly fell in love with the story. There were only a few things that I didn't feel worked right within the story line, but other than a few minor details, it was a very exciting and enjoyable read.
