Book Review-Turbulent Sea

Turbulent Sea
Drake Sisters (#6)
Christine Feehan
Jove, 308 Pages
Published July 2008
Fantasy Romance
ISBN: 0515145068

Synopsis:
The star: Joley Drake was born with a legacy of unexpected magical gifts, but it was the gift of singing that made her an overnight sensation—a rock and roll goddess trapped by fame, fortune, and ambition. Heated by the flush of success, Joley could have any man she wanted. But there’s only man who can give her what she really needs.

The bodyguard: Ilya Prakenskii, cool, inscrutable, dangerously sexy, and working in the shadow of his infamous reputation—that of a secret Russian hit man on the payroll of a notorious mobster. He’s the last man Joley should get close to, yet when her life is threatened on tour she has nowhere left to turn. But in the seductive safe keep of Ilya’s embrace, is Joley really as secure as she imagines?

My Review
In Turbulent Sea is the sixth installment in the Drake Sisters series. Joley Drake is a very famous singer that travels the world and affects everyone with her voice. Joley has great ambition as a rock star, but things aren't always as successful as it may look for Joley. Even though her singing career is sky rocketing, things are definitely about to get a bit rocky. Even though Joley has her pick of men, Joley has always had a craving for the dark and dangerous kind, the kind she knows she needs but can never have. Then Illya Prakenski enters the scene, after bearing the mark that Illya gave her, she craves for his touch and needs him more than she will admit to anyone including her sisters. When a young girl goes missing, she suspects someone in her crew but has no real way of finding her, especially since her life is in danger. When things around her start escalating with intrigue, passion and danger only Illya and Joley working together will be able to survive.

I decided to start reading this series again, especially since I just loved it so much. I have to say though, Jolie's story is by far one of my favorites to read, and this time I listened to it, I also loved both of these two characters, they are so riveting and well portrayed throughout the whole book! Jolie loves her family, but she also loves to sing almost more than anything. But then Illya enters her life, and her blood heats just at the sight of him. She knows it is dangerous to involve herself with a man that is known to be a killer, but she senses no evil from him. So despite the danger swirling around her, she pursues a relationship with a man that she doesn't truly know his real purpose but can no longer resist his touch. This was truly such a wonderful read, and I just love this series. Although its not my favorite, its a enthralling one that will keep you on the edge of a cliff, nerves all bundled in anticipation yet there is also a intensity about the plot and the interaction between the characters, leaving you with surprises that will delight you. Christine Feehan has done it again and has written such a magical world for her readers to be sated with!!!

Book Review-A Loving Scoundrel

A Loving Scoundrel
Malory Series
Johanna Lindsey
Atria Books, 355 Pages
Published April 2004
Regency Historical Romance
ISBN: 0-7434-5625-4

Synopsis
Enter the privileged world of English aristocrats and experience the passion, intrigue, and romantic pleasures of the incomparable Malorys - a family of dashing rogues, rakehell adventurers, and spirited ladies. Now Jeremy, the son of gentleman pirate James Malory, falls in love. . . .
When Danny, a young woman who grew up on the streets of London with no memory of her real family, is banished from her gang because she helped handsome rakehell Jeremy Malory steal back the jewels his friend lost in a card game, Danny demands that Jeremy give her a job. She is determined to become respectable in order to fulfill her dream of marrying and starting a family. Intrigued by her beauty and spunk, Jeremy hires Danny as his upstairs maid, although he wants her as his mistress.
Under the tutelage of Jeremy and his cousin Regina, Danny blossoms into a lady. Although she is drawn to Jeremy by passionate feelings she has never experienced before, she refuses to be anything more than a servant to him because she knows he is not the marrying kind. When Danny undergoes a Cinderella-like transformation and poses as Jeremy’s new love in an attempt to help him avert a scandal, a few highly placed members of the ton remark on how familiar Danny looks. Now tongues are wagging, raising the question of her true identity, which threatens not only Danny’s chances of capturing Jeremy’s heart but her very life.

My Review
In A Loving Scoundrel we have a young woman, Danny, who grew up on the streets, learning how to pick pockets and steal to survive. She has no memory of her life before she was found and integrated into a gang of pickpockets and thieves. Having no choice but to pose as a boy, in order to protect herself, so that she doesn't have to work at a whorehouse, she has cultivated a excellent talent in thievery and pickpocketing, however deep inside she aches for a stable future and a husband and children. Then Jeremy Malory interrupts her life, and turns her reality up side down. After a certain chain of events occur, where she is then kicked out of the gang she has lived most of her life in, she knows her only recourse is to go to Jeremy and demand compensation for what his actions has done to her life. She knows that in this process she will have to learn to act like who she really is, a woman both beautiful and courageous inside and out. Jeremy Malory, a lover of woman abroad, has certainly met his match in Danny who is truly unlike any other woman he has ever met. Despite the fact that she has such a unique beauty that takes his breath away, he knows that he must go about to seduce her into his bed, despite the fact that she thinks like a man and throws punches like one, but that only encourages him in his effort. When Danny goes through a transformation to help Jeremy avoid scandal, she is turned into a Cinderella and both Jeremy and Danny are shown the pathway of true love that will change their lives in ways neither of them expected.

A Loving Scoundrel is by far one of my favorites of this series, Jeremy is definitely a rascal and rake just like his rakehell of a father, however he also has a gentleness side of him that the reader gets to see. There is a intensity about the relationship between Jeremy and Danny. Danny has had to learn to survive on the streets of London, but now she is grown up and wants more from her life than thievery to survive. When she starts working for Jeremy as a maid hoping to have a respectable life, and starts thinking about goals which include marriage and children, then never expecting trying to find someone that takes her breath away and steals his way into her heart, which she has kept closed off until she meets Jeremy, but what she never expects is that her life is put in danger when she raises question about her past that she has no memory of, but with Jeremy on her side, they will both be tested of their feeling that they have for one another. I truly loved this story, it sweeps the reader off their feet and into a romantic world of passion, adventure of intrigue that is portrayed in a way that will leave you with a smile at the end. So if you love historical romance and Johanna Lindsey you will fall in love with Jeremy's story, GUARANTEED!!!

Book Review-Heat Seeker

Heat Seeker
Elite Ops and Tempting Seals
Lora Leigh
St Martins,
334 Pages
Published Sep 2009
Mystery Suspense Contemporary Romance
Synopsis:
A former Elite Ops captain with a dark past meets his match in a female ex-CIA agent who’s dead-set on revenge. And this time, the action—and the attraction—is more adrenaline-pumping than ever…

DARE TO DESIRE
John Vincent has always led a life of danger, and now he has every reason to want to remain as dead as the obituary in the Australian papers had proclaimed him to be. He’d left nothing behind in the life he had once led—except for one woman, and one night of unforgettable passion. Now, both will return to haunt him…

SEDUCE TO DESTROY
Bailey Serborne is still tormented by a past she can’t change and a man she hasn’t been able to forget. A man who was supposed to dead.. But now, a stroke of fate has revealed that sometimes, a woman is given a second chance to heal her heart—and exact the sweetest revenge…

My Review:
John Vincent has been proclaimed dead by all those who knew him. Now he has a new life, as a member of a elite ops, where all members on the team are dead to the world and new people. In John's previous life he met the beautiful and sensual Bailey Serborne, who mixed up his emotions, and was the one thing he truly regretted hurting as a effect of his previous "fake" death. Bailey Serborne, is our for revenge for the death of her family, then she meets John Vincent who is so alike to a man she once knew and cared deeply for. As events progress where danger and intrigue escalate so does the desire and passion they have for each other, to the point of explosive heat.  What John or Bailey never realized was the love and passion they once shared still exists strongly between them, and if they embrace it they will only be stronger as a team.

Heat Seeker is a book that was written as a part of two series, which I thought was fascinating and somewhat unique. Heat Seeker is part of the Elite Ops series and the Tempting Seals series, although these two series are very alike. Heat Seeker is probably the most explosively erotically book that I have read from Lora Leigh. I have enjoyed reading her Breeds series, but this Elite Ops series seems to focus more on the sexual desires between the two characters than the plot or the romantic and emotional relationship between Bailey and John. It does have a intriguing plot though, where the hero "John" is another person and looks different than who he was before, yet Bailey is able to see through the exterior and find the inner man that once was claimed dead. Although it did have some exciting intrigue and danger elements to the book, it is far from my favorite from this author. Since I enjoy more of the emotional side of the love story, this however just seemed to emulate Lust full blown. Although it was enjoyable, throughout the whole of it, I just kept feeling like there wasn't much connection except sexual, and I was expecting more from this one.  Lora Leigh always has a highly sexual side to her books, but it seems to me in this series it overlaps too much and there isn't much of a plot left. But if you like Lora Leigh's other series than you will enjoy this one, it still had some good elements about it, that did keep me on edge at time and there was a certain edge of mystery that leaves you breathless with questions of what Really will happen between the two, but it just wasn't as consistent in flow as some of her other books have been in the past.

Book Review- A Summer Smile

A Summer Smile
Sedikhan Series
Iris Johansen
Bantam Books,
192 Pages
Published Nov 1985
Contemporary Romance
He appeared in her life with the unexpected force of a desert sandstorm, sweeping her from terrifying danger into the sweet haven of his arms. Daniel Seifert was a fierce man, used to taking whatever he wanted, but Zilah, the spirited woman he'd risked his life to rescue, filled him instead with a passion to protect. Yet when they hid from their pursuers in the shelter of a narrow cave, their closeness ignited an overwhelming need, an intimate sharing that melded terror and desire. Once Daniel learned Zilah's tragic secret, though, he feared she was lost to his heart forever. Could he teach her the healing power of love?

My Review:
Zila Dubala has experienced a troubled young life, but has been able to heal over time. Then she is kidnapped by a terrorist group, but Zila is confident that she can handle just about anything that will come her way. Zila knows that she must find a way to escape before its too late, however she never expected that Daniel Seifert would be coming to her rescue. When Daniel hears of the plan to rescue a Zila Dubala, he is more than eager, in want for adventure and danger, and this certainly covers all aspects. After being stuck in a office for some time, he knows he needs to get out into action. When he rescues the beautiful Zila, he discovers a desire to claim her for his own. However as they are on the run from the terrorists, they both discover a heated passion that flares up between them, as well as a tender love as they learn to trust in one another and learn the healing power of true love that can heal the deepest of scars.

This was such a exhilirating read!!! I also listened to this one, instead of reading it. I just love the way the narrator, Traci Svensgaard, portrays the story out to the listener. This narrator does all of the Iris Johansen Audio Books that I have listened to so far, and she is amazing, and I would recommend her to everyone that enjoys listening to Audio Books. I think what I enjoyed the most about this book, was how intense their relationship develops, and not only on the sexual attraction, but the emotional relationship between Zila and Daniel. It does have a emotional effect on the reader. The plot is a exciting one as well, with the suspense of Zila and Daniel on the run from Terrorists, it has a certain thrilling aspect to the story, that only adds spice to it. The only aspect of the story I didn't like was that there is a secret that Zila keeps from Daniel, and I just felt that she kept it from him far too long, and I personally thought she should have told him much sooner than she did. However despite that, this was a wonderful romance, a classic tale of adventure and passion!
