Synopsis
Danger waits on both sides of the grave.
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"; the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.
My Review

Summary
With Cat's new abilites threaten to unbalance everything they have worked for. Cat never realized what becoming a vampire would do, but now she wonders if she will be enough to stop the war that is rising and threatens them all. When Cat and Bones and figure out that there is a rising tension becoming volatile between ghouls and vampires. When Cat goes to the ghoul queen to find answers and who has been a sort of a ally in the past, but could easily stab them in the back, they don't trust her. However they know everything they need to know would come from her. So when Cat and Bones go to see her, Cat is forced to drink her blood and a different sort of power runs through her veins. Cat never imagined the consequences of such an action, one that would change things and could put herself and everyone she cares for at greater risk. Only by using every available power she has will they be able to overcome the power that could destroy them.

My Thoughts
As the fifth in the series, we see a growth of the relationship between Cat and Bones. This installment was a bit different than the others. I won't say its my favorite one, it has the same sense of wit and suspense and sensuality, however the story line just didn't draw me in as the others in the series. I did enjoy it quite a bit, and maybe its because its a re read...who knows. I didn't feel like Cat and Bones have a strengthening in their relationship as the past books have done. There is quite a bit going on in the story that there isn't a whole lot of focus on Cat and Bones. Even though there is a danger involved in this story, it wasn't as provoking as in the past. There didn't seem to be a life threatening danger, I felt like it was there but just on the surface. It was great to see more involvment in Bones and Cats friends such as Mencheres,Vlad, and Spade, Kira and Denise. Overall another enjoyable installment in this fantastic series, and even though not as entertaining as the other installments in the series, it was still a fun read.

First Line
The vampire pulled on the chains restraining him to the cave wall.
